“But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him…Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1 Cor. 12:18, 27). Learning about the different spiritual gifts, personalities, abilities, and interests that God gives His children fascinates me! Although I am a missionary, I am, by nature and spiritual gifting, a server. This means that it is not always easy for me to stand in front of an audience and speak. I am much more comfortable helping and supporting others in their God-given goals and plans. Yet sometimes, to progress towards the goal of Silent Word Ministries (“Giving…

    Newsletter – May 2023

As the Silent Word Ministries’ Home Office Missionary, my desire is two-fold: “Reach the Deaf” and “Refresh the missionaries.” Sometimes those goals are the same. By helping and refreshing our missionaries, I assist in their outreach to Deaf people. This spring, I was excited to help the Barrs (SWM missionaries) with Fantastic Saturday events in Trenton and Atlanta, Georgia. In April, I also assisted for the first time with Deaf Days at the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky. For the event, 444 Deaf people registered to attend. Many did not know about Silent Word Ministries. It was a thrill meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends, as well…

    Newsletter – February 2023

2022 was an exciting and eventful year for me at the SWM Home Office: I am so thankful for the team of regular volunteers who are available and willing to help in any way needed. Often I delegate book orders, prayer letter mailings, and cleaning to them so that I can answer phones, edit/update master files for printing, and update the website. Once last year, I joked with one of our volunteers (as we were deflating beach balls after a Hawaiian-themed Deaf fellowship) that it is difficult to explain what I do at the office because of the variety. God has truly blessed me indeed and enlarged my coast since…

    Newsletter – November 2022

I thank God “who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry.” (1 Timothy 1:12) The ministry God has given me as SWM Home Office Missionary is exciting and challenging. The Home Office can be a very lively place at times. Recently, we have been preparing for a new season of Fantastic Saturday events. These area-wide Deaf outreaches in various states begin in the fall and continue in the spring. After a theme has been chosen, I update the details on fliers and web pages, then create PDFs, print and send fliers, and create Facebook events for at least 10 different events. SWM missionaries…

It is exciting to look back at what God has done in recent months and to look forward to what He may do!Highlights from Spring 2022: Branson, Missouri – In April, SWM missionary Mrs. Carlene Camp and I flew to Branson, Missouri for a few days to meet with some other ladies who are on the board of the “Deaf Baptist Ladies Retreat” (Mrs. Camp is also on the board). They were planning this year’s retreat (to be hosted in October at the Stone Castle Hotel in Branson) and asked me and another lady to assist with decorating and advertising. It was a profitable trip, and much was accomplished. Biblical…

Jehovah M’Kaddesh – “The God Who sanctifies.” We are saved through faith in Christ’s finished work – His death on the cross and His resurrection. How wonderful to know that after salvation, He doesn’t leave us alone to figure out how to grow spiritually! It is through our personal relationship with God that we are changed and made like Christ. His job is to sanctify (make us right) – our job is simply to yield and follow His leading. Last December, God gave me a theme for 2022 – FOLLOW. I followed Him many years ago when I surrendered to Deaf ministry, and I continue to follow Him in service…

    Newsletter – December 2021

I am so thankful that God has called me to serve in Deaf ministry with Silent Word Ministries! Every week, God gives me plenty of opportunities to minister. I have learned that when I focus on Christ and love Him more (abiding in the vine), He gives me daily strength to obey and serve (walking in the Spirit). Trying hard to do right and obey the Bible in my own strength only results in frustration. Without His help, I can do nothing. God has given me the opportunity to begin a Bible study with a young lady whom I have known for several years, and this is what I have…

My life verse says “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). There are so many things in ministry to do! And many hands are needed. I am thankful for the various volunteers who have helped with hanging pictures, fixing lights, proofreading event fliers, stuffing letters and receipts, cleaning, weeding, and more. (Some of these volunteers knew little or no sign language.) Much is accomplished when God’s people work together! At the end of April, Toni, a Deaf SWM volunteer, and I set up a table at a local venue to raise awareness of Deaf people and of SWM. It was a blessing to hand…

    Newsletter – April 2021

Greetings Friends & Fellow-Laborers, How time flies! In 2005, God crossed the path of a young woman, unsure of her future, with a seasoned missionary to the Deaf. Shortly after a mission trip to the Philippines, God began to show her how He had been leading all along through her interest in sign language as a teen. After a few years, she enrolled in college to study signs full time, and on May 16, 2011, she moved to Trenton, GA, to assist Silent Word Ministries for a one-month period. That was me…10 years ago! At the end of one month… I stayed, and God gave me the privilege of becoming…

“As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness” (Ps. 17:15). My personal theme for 2021 is “Enough.” It is easy sometimes to focus on things we don’t have and forget to be thankful for the blessings God has given us. If we have God, we have enough. I am very thankful for God’s blessings and protection throughout 2020, both personally and in ministry. Through the Easter tornado and flooding, Dad’s heart attack and successful 4-way bypass surgery, the coronavirus pandemic, a canceled mission trip, canceled retreats and other events, national elections and unrest – God was still faithful.…
